The leafy, residential Parque 93 neighborhood has a quieter, more relaxed feel compared to Bogota’s edgier areas or bustling city center, with its historic museums, expansive gardens of exotic flora and sculptured fountains, and hills lined with centuries-old trees. Come and explore the surroundings of Museo del Chicó before noshing on tropical shrimp ceviche at one of the many restaurants in ‘La 93’–the area’s hip dining district with knockout views of the neighborhood’s verdant namesake park.

PARQUE 93 BRIEFING

On weekends a young, trend-setting crowd flocks to this vibrant district to brunch at the bistros and meet for drinks at the many bars, or simply to laze in the large central park.

WHY WE LOVE IT… In this zona, anchored by its eponymous park, locals take advantage of the green: children play in the jungle gym, while adults set up picnics and soak up a little Andean sun.

DID YOU KNOW? The park is home to an impressive variety of flora: 155 types of trees – including Kentia, wax palms, Chinese ash, and rubber – as well as ferns and flowers. To buy bouquets of the papyrus and daisies, stop by neighboring Parque del Virrey (Calle 87 with Carrera 15).

WHERE TO EAT: With inviting leather sofas and potted plants throughout, V de Verde has the breezy comfort and chic appeal of a Manhattan loft, plus a lunchtime value menu that’s one of the district’s best deals (Calle 93 No 11A-11 Local 104).

WHAT TO DRINK: A young crowd heads to Restaurante Plaka each Thursday for its killer two-for-one drink special. Make your first round their Hypnotic Martini – a fruity mix of vodka, soho, Hpnotiq and fresh lychees.

CAN’T-MISS EXPERIENCE: In the upper hills you’ll find Museo del Chicó a 380-year-old house-cum-museum. Admire the colonial structure before spending time in its expansive park taking advantage of its $2,000 painting classes (Carrera 7 No. 93-01; www.museodelchico.com).

BEST SHOPPING SPOT: Packing art galleries, design warehouses, independent jewelers, and a bookstore-café into four floors, the Centro de Diseño Portobelo is the spot to shop for stylish wares. Don’t miss the made to order pieces from Joyas Alfred Kling.
