Coffee is a symbol of Colombia. “A person who comes to Colombia and doesn’t try the coffee is like somebody who goes to France and doesn’t try the wine,” affirms Luis Fernando Vélez, owner of Amor Perfecto. We have to agree. For this reason, we asked barista national champion Nicolás Rico to share his recommendations to fully enjoy the greatest treasure from the mountains of Colombia.
- Make sure you use 100% Colombian coffee – the bag should display the logo from the ‘Federación Nacional de Cafeteros’
- Drink it freshly-ground to better appreciate the aromas and flavor
- Since high quality coffee doesn’t need sugar, avoid adding it
- Try it at different temperatures: hot, warm and cold
- Savor the unique fruity and sweet notes
- Prepare coffee with pure water that is free of bleach
- Since paper and plastic change the taste, always drink coffee from ceramic cups
- If you prepare it yourself, boil the water and let it rest three minutes before adding the coffee
- There’s a café boom in Bogota and baristas are ready to answer all your questions. So ask away
